A group of construction-supply warehouses, with 15 estimators handling about 300 quotes a month, built quotes by hand from plan sets: PDFs of fixture and product schedules that vary by architect or engineer in tags, descriptions and detail.
Going from plans received to quote sent took up to 128 hours. The hardest part was unwritten estimator knowledge about when to keep, hold, cross or expand a specified product and which manufacturer rep to ask for pricing, so quoting capacity depended on how many experienced estimators each warehouse had.
The team built a plan-set quoting agent on the Claude Agent SDK and Google Document AI for a group of construction-supply warehouses. It extracts product schedules, prices catalog matches with rules, resolves ambiguous rows against each warehouse's preferences, and emails manufacturer reps for missing prices, with estimators reviewing every quote before export.
A reviewable quote, including outgoing rep pricing requests, is ready about 30 minutes after plans arrive. Baseline from the warehouse owners and estimators.
Live for 15 estimators across several warehouses; estimators check every quote before export.
Pricing known products from the catalog without AI cut cost and made quotes repeatable job to job.
