What sucked
Sidearm Sports faced external pressure from partner schools asking about its AI strategy, while internal adoption was uneven, enthusiastic early adopters in some areas, personal-only AI use in others, and wide variance across teams.
Leadership recognized that without a real standard and accountability, adoption would stay fragmented.
What they built
Sidearm partnered with Section to build proficiency across the whole organization, starting with leadership. President George Scott mandated Section for all employees and led by example, with personalized coaching, a basic proficiency certification defining the baseline standard, and use-case discovery through Section's platform.
What changed
90% certified
90% of employees completed Section's Basic AI Proficiency program.
130 use cases
130 AI use cases were identified and put into active use across the business.
Faster engineering adoption
Section-trained engineers adapted to Claude Code faster and more effectively than untrained peers.
