A venture-backed insurance startup had an ambitious product, a tight commercialization timeline, and a lean engineering team.
The platform needed to reach customers, but critical onboarding, insurance management, and backend workflows weren't ready for production. The challenge wasn't just building features faster. It was shipping a reliable product without slowing down to build a larger engineering team.
The short of the long is that Atomic Build embedded senior engineering talent alongside the founders and introduced an AI-augmented engineering workflow built around three tools: Claude Code: Accelerated development, debugging, and implementation across the full stack. Devin AI: Enabled delegation of engineering tasks to increase development capacity. Engineering Pipelines: Introduced automated quality checks and repeatable processes to help AI-assisted code move safely into production. Alongside this setup, we rebuilt key customer workflows, strengthened backend reliability with DBOS and PostgreSQL, and implemented production monitoring with Datadog. The result: The startup launched its platform to its first customers, accelerated delivery without expanding permanent engineering headcount, and established a stronger foundation for continued growth.
